Social events

TMGP aims to strengthen our community by holding social events that reflect a diversity of identity, politics, and desire.

This section includes events that are organised by TMGP, as well as other events that are welcoming of trans and intersex identities and politics. If you wish to have your event listed here, please contact us.

Forthcoming events

There are no forthcoming TMGP specific events… yet. If you’d like to be kept in the loop about all the news on TMGP, why not join our email list?

However, here is something that might interest you…

GenderSchmender

Some TMGP members are part of a crew called GenderSchmender – a collective committed to creating spaces to celebrate trans, queer and genderqueer communities. GenderSchmender events embrace a diversity of artforms, including performance, film, spoken word, visual art and music.

Past events

Watching ‘TransGeneration’, eating and generally hanging out

On 12 August 2006, we staged an afternoon that involved hanging out and watching the first four episodes of the documentary series TransGeneration. This series captures a year in the life of four college students who are transitioning their gender.

It was a fun event - and we ate a lot of delicious food too!

Part two of this event (watching the final 4 episodes) is coming soon.

TMGP stall for the 2006 Midsumma Festival

Thanks to some financial assistance from the Melbourne University Queer Collective, TMGP held a stall at the annual Midsumma Carnival in January 2006. The Carnival is part of Midsumma Festival, Melbourne’s gay and lesbian festival. It was great to be the only trans focused community stall at an event dominated by commercial and business stalls chasing the ‘pink dollar’.

We met lots of new folks as well as catching up with people who had been on the TMGP email list for sometime but had not attended meetings before. The TMGP table showcased an array of paraphernalia that was extremely well received, including TMGP stickers, patches, badges and t-shirts with our ‘Put Gender In The Blender’ design.

The TMGP table also included flyers, zines, pens and badges for the Pan Campaign. For more info on the Pan Campaign or to join the fight for gender neutral bathrooms to be installed in universities across Australia, send a blank email to appetitefordeconstruction-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Tranz Fest 05

TMGP holds an annual picnic to celebrate the end of the year in the Edinburgh Gardens each December. The day is a chance for members of the trans and intersex communities and our allies to get together and share experiences over some yummy food, games, and music. In 05 we had over 30 people join us in the park for some great food and great chats.

We hope that you can make it to the next one and that each year this event grows bigger and bigger.

Tranz Perve-Formance

On 16th August 2005, TMGP held a fundraiser at Glitch Bar and Cinema in North Fitzroy. The night was a great success and we had almost 70 people through the door. We had spoken word from Aren Z. Aizura, Tom Cho, and Wednesday, and stand-up comedy from Sally Goldner. MC’ing was done by Tallace Bissett and we also screened a documentary made by Wednesday about ‘the Pan Campaign’ - Melbourne University’s fight for gender neutral bathrooms on campus.
