In 2008, TMGP is running monthly support and social meetings at the City Library in Melbourne’s CBD.
These gatherings are supportive but informal. People of all ages, backgrounds, and gender identities are welcome. We want to provide a friendly and safe (and fun) space to chat with other people about gender-related issues. We encourage you to come along, have a coffee or a beer, and talk to us about your experiences. Generally meetings are run by a TMGP member, who might bring along some photocopied resources to take away, or just kick the conversation off at the beginning.
TMGP meetings are held on the second Monday of every month in the Group Study Room, Frank Crean Wing in the City Library (Flinders Lane, between Swanston & Elizabeth St). Meetings start at 6pm.
Most meetings are themed. Here is a list of meeting dates and themes for 2008:
- Monday Feb 11th: Dealing with transition at work/family/school/uni (resources & skill sharing)
- Monday March 3rd: Navigating sex, sexuality & body image (NB. Monday 10th is a public holiday so meeting is not the 2nd Monday but the 1st)
- Monday April 14th: General chit chat & project updates
- Monday May 12th: Partners/lovers/SO’s specific meeting
- Monday June 2nd: Psychs/doctors/medical bureaucracy debrief session (NB. Monday June 9th is a public holiday so meeting is not the 2nd Monday of the month but the 1st)
- Monday July 14th: General chit chat & project updates, planning meeting for 2008 Tranny Awards
- Monday August 11th: Medical and non-medical transition
- Monday September 8th: Show & tell night (ie. invite a friend/lover/family/partner) then dinner afterwards. Dress up as a robot!
- Monday October 13th: General chit chat & project updates
- Monday November 10th: Intersections between queerness & gender variance
- Monday December 8th: craft night & swap meet (clothes, binders, packies, etc)
